LinkedIn has compiled its eighth-annual list of the top companies noted for career growth. In addition to parsing trends and identifying success factors, the analysis provided a valuable takeaway: Continual investment in the employee experience is a crucial part of employers’ success in the current business environment. 

How LinkedIn Ranks Top Companies for Career Advancement 

To be eligible for the list, firms had to adhere to requirements that included having 5,000 or more global employees with at least 500 in the U.S. as of Dec. 31, 2023. Subsidiary data were rolled up to parental metrics. 

Staffing and recruiting firms, educational institutions, and governmental agencies were excluded (as were LinkedIn and its parent companies). 

The 8 Pillars of Career Advancement 

The analysis ranked companies against eight pillars identified as important for career progression: 

1. Ability to advance: tracking employee promotions 
2. Skills growth: how a company encourages learning 
3. Company stability: a measure of attrition over a year 
4. External opportunity: recruiter outreach across employees at a company, indicating demand 
5. Company affinity: the strength of the company culture 
6. Gender diversity: assessing parity in the company and its subsidiaries 
7. Educational background, measuring the range from no degree to Ph.D. 
8. Employee presence in the country: the company’s employee numbers nationwide, relative to other companies
