Inside the Real-World Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Michael Eisner’s Malibu Home

For 21 years, 1984–2005, businessman Michael Eisner was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, guiding the entertainment giant for its longest successful stretch outside of an actual Disney family member. His tenure earned some of the studio’s greatest financial and artistic accolades since its heyday from the 1940s to the 1960s.

Under Eisner’s leadership, the Walt Disney brand was bolstered by an impressive run of animated hits, including The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and The Lion King (1994).

Eisner’s Malibu home, built in 1992, occupies more than four acres on the stunningly scenic Pacific Coast Highway and comprises nine separate structures. Architected in the European styles of Tuscany, Provence, and Spain, it has 16 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms, according to Kenny Forder’s property overview for Homes of the Rich.

Just as visitors to a Disney theme park are immediately welcomed by the attractive sights of Main Street USA, guests at the former Eisner household are drawn in by an enticing foyer bathed in natural light.

The living room continues the feeling of open airiness, again using large windows to highlight the visual advantage of living so close to the seaside.

The den has a fireplace for when those beachfront evenings turn chilly. This one is decidedly lower maintenance than the one Cinderella was required to sweep daily.

What movie mogul’s home would be complete without its own movie theater? Here’s a lux place to nestle in for a showing of a Disney treasure: Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmatians, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or any of a dozen other classics. It connects to the main house through a cleverly designed tunnel.

The asking price for the Eisner property at 33550 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, Calif., is $225 million. That price point can be obtained through either traditional withdrawal from a bank account or a heartfelt plea to Pinocchio’s wishing star.
