Michael Dorrell—CEO and cofounder of Stonespeak, a New York City investment firm—recently purchased a Tarpon Island, Palm Beach, Fla. mansion. The property sits on a man-made oasis on the Intracoastal Waterway.
The eye-popping estate has 29,000 sq. ft. of living space, 1,163 sq. ft. of waterfront exposure, 11 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a lighted tennis court, two private decks, a pool, and an outdoor kitchen, as reported by Luxury Houses. At Dorrell’s instruction, designers repurposed the site’s original 1930s home into a “wellness wing” that features a massage room, nail and hair salon, steam room, sauna, and gym.
The front of the home benefits from a pair of shade trees that enable a bit of privacy in a home that cannot help but attract attention. Out back, however, the view is unencumbered, providing freer sight lines.
Much of the interior is open concept. This portion of the first floor, for example, works well for a small gathering in the evening by the fireplace or just casual conversation while taking in the stunning outdoor views by day.
The reverse view shows the rest of the space, including the attractive tray ceiling, the chic hardwood floor, contemporary fireplace, and beautiful chandelier.
The kitchen features a continuation of the hardwood as its foundation, as well as a white background. These make architectural accents that include the marble countertops, pop in contrast.
The dining room is sheer elegance. The storage shelves introduce a few new elements to break up the space, namely, stainless steel supports and a mirrored background. But visually, it’s hard to beat the effect provided by the massive windows.
A separate sitting room offers guests a taste of the outdoors, with large archways letting in cool evening breezes from the waterfront.
The pool provides two options for exercise and relaxation: a lap pool in which to burn off some calories and stress and a smaller tank for sitting, conversing, and bringing the heartbeat back to its resting pace.
A business mogul with any status at all wants options when it comes to getting around town. The property’s generous garage provides a haven for multiple vehicles, protecting them from the elements.
As for privacy, there’s nothing quite like the solitude that’s guaranteed by a home whose foundation floats on the water itself. The main access point, a bridge, ensures that only the invited can gain access.
Dorrell’s purchase price for this Florida haven was $150 million, a record for lakefront properties, according to The Wall Street Journal. For Dorrell, however, that price tag was something of a bargain, as the original asking price was $185.7 million.
