Jeff Bezos — American business tycoon, former President and CEO of Amazon, and the second-wealthiest person in the world — recently shed himself of his Southern California estate. The asking price was $165 million, making it the most expensive single-family dwelling sold in America.
A Beverly Hills Mansion with a Cinematic Past
The Georgian-style home at 1801 Angelo Drive, Beverly Hills, Calif., was (according to Architectural Digest) originally built in 1937 for movie mogul Jack Warner. Warner led the Warner Bros. studio for 55 years, overseeing films that ranged from The Jazz Singer (1929) to Casablanca (1942) to My Fair Lady (1964).
The site holds a 13,000-sq. ft. mansion, extensive gardens, multiple greenhouses, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a detached garage, and a nine-hole golf course.
The open-air living room suits the SoCal climate nicely, inviting the seasonally moderate temperatures to permeate inside.
The adjacent kitchen leverages the same gorgeous views while providing a neatly arranged meal prep and cooking area.
The dining room is sunny and inviting during the day but is truly magical at night, again benefitting from the large windows.
Every business exec needs something of a sanctuary to escape the pressures of the day; Bezos must have found his in the estate’s bedroom.
For a movie guy like Warner, a screening room was a must-have. It survives to this day, benefiting from continual maintenance and upgrades.
And no legit Southern California mansion is complete without a pool. This one is absolutely idyllic.
