Mark Cuban — Dallas Mavericks minority owner and Shark Tank financier — augmented his residential real estate portfolio in 2018 with the purchase of 3 Montage Way, Laguna Beach, Calif. The seaside home, built in the French-chateau style in 1997, has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, five wet bars, five fireplaces, an inground swimming pool, a wine cellar, a basketball court (of course) and five garages.
Guests realize they are in a special place from the moment they enter the dwelling. The entryway provides an understandable measure of security for the inhabitants and visitors but still projects an aura of welcome.
Once inside, the purposefulness of the home’s layout becomes evident: It was designed to take advantage of the area’s temperate weather and natural beauty, evidenced by the living room layout.
At mealtime, family and guests can gather in the dining room. Its footprint is scaled down, but that only ensures a proper setting for intimate meals and engaging discussions around the table.
Meal prep in a traditional kitchen can get stuffy, with ovens roasting and pots aboil. The Cuban kitchen, however, ensures an abundance of fresh air.
After a satisfying meal and interesting conversation, it may be nice to transition into some entertainment. The nearby family room has three televisions, plenty of seating, and a wine rack for the storage of some vintage potables.
For some spirits of a stronger nature, the downstairs bar is ideal for some sipping, a cigar or two, and a round of interesting conversation.
Nightfall, when it’s time to retire, the master bedroom has natural surround-sound possibilities conducive to deep sleep. The babbling of the pool is certainly serene. But the nearby ocean can create a lullaby all its own.
Even a common morning shower, shave, and tooth brushing become tony experiences, thanks to the top-notch master bathroom.
The pool, viewable from the master bedroom, isn’t merely decoration. It’s an on-property vacation getaway, suitable for a swim, a snack, and some downtime in a comfortably cushioned chair.
